Technical glossary
Technical terms about shelters, structural loads, materials and regulations explained simply.
- Snow load
- Weight of snow on the roof, measured in kg/m². Globotent standard: 220 kg/m² (reinforceable by zone).
- Wind load
- Wind pressure on the structure, measured in kg/m². Globotent standard: 100 kg/m².
- Eurocode
- European structural calculation standard (EN 1991). Our shelters are designed to Eurocode.
- Temporary structure (fliegender Bau in DE)
- Non-permanent construction, generally exempt from a building permit in most regions.
- PVC tarpaulin
- Roof covering material. Typical weights: 750 g/m² (standard) and 900 g/m² (reinforced industrial). 100% waterproof, UV50+.
- Galvanised steel
- Steel coated with zinc for corrosion resistance. 10-year warranty on the structure.
- Eaves height
- Clear height from ground to the start of the roof, at the side. Determines how much you can stack against the wall.
- Ridge height
- Maximum height at the centre of the shelter (gable-roof type).
- Building notification
- Simplified notice to the local authority that construction is taking place. Not a formal permit.
